Running for Vets

Running for Vets

Greetings,

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.  I should probably explain what it is all about and why I set this up.

You see, I’m turning 50 on October 28th, 2016.  Going into your fifties is one of those time frames where life starts to look a little different.  At least it is from my pre-50 point of view.  Kids are older and more self sufficient (even though they still need you), your career you worked at for almost 30 years can take a different direction (sometimes by choice and sometimes not), your body feels and looks different.  Simply your  getting older.

I decided I wanted to do something that acknowledges getting to this point of life but also shows that it is just a number.  Something that revolves around the number 50.

So I decided that during this 12 month period – 10/28/2016 to 10/28/2017 – I was going to run in 50 different 5k races.  A total of 250 km.  Even though I jog occasionally it has been over 15 years since I last ran in a race like that.  So I thought this would be a good challenge.

As I thought about it, though, I decided that it just didn’t seem right to make this just about me.  I wanted the accomplishment of it to be something a bit more.  So the decision came up to make it a fundraiser.

So, what I am asking you to do is to pledge a certain amount of money per kilometer that I complete in these races, with a maximum of 250.  It doesn’t matter how much you give.  Anything will be great.

Who does that money go to?  Great question!

The charity I am going to be running for is called Salute.  As we know there are many brave individuals who put their life on the line to defend our country and make us feel safe.  Unfortunately some of these amazing people don’t come back unscathed.  The injuries are life changing and can be terrible.

Salute is around to provide the financial assistance these veterans need to make it through the tough time period before their benefits kick in.  Those times can be financially and emotionally debilitating periods.  This great organization is around to help get these dedicated individuals through this time.  To learn more about Salute click this link: www.saluteinc.org.

You can contribute to my efforts in one of two ways.

  • One is that you can send your pledge to me through the email of run50greg@gmail.com.  Once I completed the 250 km I will send you an email back asking to send in your donation to Salute.
  • Or you can go onto the funding page on Salute’s web site set up for me to make a payment at any time.  Click on THIS to get to it!

When making the payment please add a note in the comment section that says “For Greg’s Run 50”.  This way we can track the total amount donated for this endeavor.

I want to make a point.  NOT ONE PENNY OF WHAT YOU DONATE GOES TO ME!  All this goes to Salute to help our injured veterans.  That is also why you are going directly to Salute to make the donation and so you can get the tax write off.

Thank you very much for considering this request!  If you can’t or don’t want to donate, I totally understand.  Always keep in mind, though, what our military does for us and how we can always be of help to them.

Have a great day!
