Race #9 – Jingle Bell Run

Race #9 – Jingle Bell Run

In my last post I said my next run was the Rudolph Ramble.  Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling good so I didn’t go to it.  As fate likes to do, though, the run wound up being canceled anyways because of a lot of snow that morning. So my ninth run became the Jingle Bell Run, which supports the Arthritis Foundation.  This one was pretty cool because it took off at Soldier Field.  It was a pretty cold morning and they had…

#8 – Santa Run

#8 – Santa Run

OK – I have to say it.  This run was my favorite.  Not to disparage or take anything away from the others but with this being in my hometown of Arlington Heights, the Santa costumes, and running it with some good friends really totaled up to being a great run.  Ran it with Bob Scislowski and Alan Washer.  This was Alan’s first 5K ever.  Bob ran them before and he’s much faster than me (yep, there my performance anxiety rears…

#7 – Schaumburg Turkey Trot

#7 – Schaumburg Turkey Trot

Yep, my fourth Turkey Trot.  With all the food we all eat at this time I of year I guess it’s appropriate there are a lot of runs. Nice day for a run.  Though it’s starting to get a wee bit colder out.  Going to have to contend with that for the winter races.  This race had a bit of a different layout as I had to park by where the finish line was and they had buses take us…

#6 – LaGrange Turkey Trot

#6 – LaGrange Turkey Trot

If you’re someone who has been reading this blog you will undoubtedly notice I haven’t posted anything in a while.  The reason being is that I was locked out and it took me awhile to figure out it was something stupid I was doing.  But I’m back! Race #6 was on Thanksgiving in LaGrange for their Rotary.  Run this race with my cousin Annette Zyck, which she ran great!  One interesting part was that it started in front of LTHS,…

Race #5 – 10% Done! – Addison Turkey Trot

Race #5 – 10% Done! – Addison Turkey Trot

10% done!  Gotta love it! This race was on the first colder, windy day that I’ve had to run in for this challenge of mine.  Overall it wasn’t a bad day, though.  My sister bought me some  running tights and shirts for my birthday so I used them for the first time.  They worked remarkably well! My time was OK at 30:51 but it was pretty windy.  The only uphill portion, which I ran twice because of a loop, was…

Race #4 – St. Charles Turkey Trot

Race #4 – St. Charles Turkey Trot

OK – I’m actually about a week late in updating this blog with my latest run.  As chance had its way, I ran in the same forest preserve as I did the day before for the Race for the Rescues.  This race was set up, though, on the paths so there wasn’t any trail running.  It was still St. Charles, however, which means it was still hilly! I know, stop complaining! My time came down a bit from the day…

Race #3 – Run 4 the Rescues

Race #3 – Run 4 the Rescues

First off, I know I said in my last post that today’s race was going to be for Breathe Deep Busse Woods.  My entry fee stayed with them but I found out that the organization my cousin, Jody Zyck, is a part of was putting on their first 5K, so I decided I wanted to go there and support her.  The organization is called Field of Dreams and the they help to place rescue horses into good homes and situations….

Race #2 – Cantigny 5K Run

Race #2 – Cantigny 5K Run

So race #2 is in the books.  Beautiful day for a run!  And running on the Cantigny grounds and golf course was awesome!  Being on those grounds reminds me of why I’m doing this and why I’m running for Salute.  There was one vet there with a prosthetic leg.  He didn’t run but did walk the entire course. They played the national anthem, which I haven’t seen at another race, and you could instantly tell who the veterans were.  Even…

First Race! Halloween Hustle – 10.29.16

First Race! Halloween Hustle – 10.29.16

Finished my first run!  Or a jog, as I really should call it.  It was the Halloween Hustle 5K in Palatine which benefits Fathers Helping Fathers. That’s one thing that Mary Beth Beiersdorf pointed out to me.  Not only is this venture benefiting Salute but it’s also benefiting a lot of other worthwhile causes.  That’s something I’m really going to try to keep in mind when signing up for these runs and make sure that these are organizations that I…

Running 50 at 50 for Our Vets

Running 50 at 50 for Our Vets

Greetings, Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.  I should probably explain what it is all about and why I set this up. You see, I’m turning 50 on October 28th, 2016.  Going into your fifties is one of those time frames where life starts to look a little different.  At least it is from my pre-50 point of view.  Kids are older and more self sufficient (even though they still need you), your career you worked at…
